We are looking to appoint a well organised individual to participate in providing professional, efficient and high quality Secretary and reception duties to the Speech and Language Therapy Service (SLT).

You will be situated in the department's reception area offering a friendly and efficient first point of contact to patients and visitors to our department. Main responsibilities include greeting patients/visitors to the department, answering all telephone calls including complex and confidential patient related information, managing the department's outpatient waiting list and arranging all outpatient appointments using the Trust's Electronic Patient Information system, booking hospital transport, dealing with therapist's administrative needs and typing routine letters and complex reports.

You will be required to contribute to the admin needs of the wider SLT service which may require covering in other locations on site. There is scope to develop the role to support the SLT Admin Lead in the provision of high quality support to the expanding SLT Service. Please contact Alison Elliot for more details if required.

Confidence in IT and keyboard use and the ability to type quickly and accurately is essential. Competence in hospital systems such as EPIC and Oracle would be a strong advantage. The ability to prioritise effectively and to remain calm and focused under pressure is important as the position can be demanding.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a priority as you are the first point of contact for our service and we work with people who are experiencing severe communication problems.

The current work pattern includes covering two evening clinics per week until 6.30pm and we are keen to maintain this arrangement. However, the department has a flexible approach to working patterns. Please telephone to discuss.
