We are seeking an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist preferably qualified to specialist level or with the equivalent postgraduate qualification, to join our UKAS accredited (ISO 15189) busy Biochemistry Section of our the Blood Sciences Laboratory, participating fully in the 24/7 shift pattern as operationally required.

We may also consider other applicants who are HCPC registered, who apply with relevant experience and who fulfill the other essential criteria, has experience at Band 5 level with the expectation of completing the Clinical Biochemistry Specialist Portfolio. The appointed candidate will initially be conditionally appointed at Band 5 commencing at the minimum Band 5 BMS pay scale, unless they have previous NHS service at the same band.

They will be expected to complete a defined proportion of the Specialist Portfolio every year up to a maximum of 3 years. Progression through the scale is by annual increments managed through the appraisal process. Upon completion, they will be progressed to the Specialist BMS Band 6 position in accordance with AFC.

The Biochemistry department is UKAS accredited to ISO standards 15189 and is a HCPC accredited training laboratory. We are a very busy and diverse lab, providing a wide range of combined Blood Sciences (Biochemistry and Routine Haematology) services from one floor.

The Blood Sciences department is equipped with a Siemens Track system supported by an Aptio Automation system, Advia 2400, Centaur XP and Dimension EXL 200 Chemistry analysers, alongside Advia 2120’s and ACL Top 750s. IT functionality is provided by a Laboratory Middleware - CentralLink Data Management System - and the Trust Epic/Beaker system.  

The post will involve routine laboratory functions with the expectation of covering the 24/7, 365 days a year shift pattern.

The department is very proactive in education and development. We support a variety of CPD activities and have a dedicated and qualified Training team coaching staff undertaking Registration and Specialist IBMS Portfolios.

You will be a good team worker, with good time management skills who is able to demonstrate a flexible approach to work. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to gain experience, expanding their role within healthcare science.
